It’s summer time and while we’re slathering on sunscreen and moisturizer, it’s easy to forget about protecting our hair. The sun’s heat and UV rays damage and dry out our hair like it can with skin.

  1. Moisturizing is key

Keeping your hair moisturized will help with help with all this season’s heat and humility. Summer air can quickly dry out your hair, so try not to wash your hair too often. If you have dry hair, try washing it 1-2 times a week max. If your hair is oily - every other day.

  2. Take care of yourself inside-out:

Your diet affects your hair just like it does with your skin. Make sure to drink plenty of water and eat a balanced diet with ingredients like fish, nuts and egg to keep your hair’s shine and lessen split ends. Biotin supplements also help! Biotin is a natural supplement that many don’t get enough of - low levels of biotin can lead to dry, brittle hair.

  3. Your Pantry

Your hair care routine doesn’t need to be expensive - try looking in your pantry first! 1-2 times a week, mix 1 full egg with coconut or avocado oil to make a hair mask and leave it on for 20-30 minutes with a shower cap. The oils have a ton of Omega 3 to help your hair grow thicker. You can also eat the inside of an aloe leaf to for the rich vitamins or mix it with avocado oil in a blender and use that as a 30 minute hair mask.

  4. Hair Masks

Well, after mentioning hair masks it’s no surprise that they’re crucial in keeping your hair hydrated. Try working 1 tsp of coconut oil directly on the ends of your hair up towards your scalp. Leave it in for 30-60 min and then rinse it - this should lock in your hair’s natural oils and keep it shiny.

  5. Microfiber Hair Towels

Microfiber hair towels help transition your hair from a wet state to a damp state as quickly as  possible. Microfiber is 100 times finer than a human hair. A square inch on a microfiber towel holds close to 200,000 fibers, which creates a larger surface area to absorb moisture. Microfiber towels are lighter than a traditional towel and is one of the best materials to ensure your hair dries with less frizz.
